Tools (the free kind!)
GIMP
At this point everyone has heard of Adobe Photoshop, but did you know that there is a free and open source alternative? You should because it has been around for over 20 years and it is fantastic! GIMP’s robust and sophisticated tools will help prepare the photos and images of your work before assembling them into a portfolio.
Scribus
In order to assemble your images, photos and text into a portfolio, you will need a layout tool such as Adobe InDesign. However, being all about free and open source solutions we found just that in Scribus. Scribus and GIMP are designed to work together: GIMP prepares the images, while Scribus arranges those images and text into a final layout.
SketchUp
While not specifically a portfolio tool, SketchUp is an excellent free 3D modeling software. Easy to learn, but with enough features to produce professional level work, SketchUp is an excellent tool for learning the basics of modeling and rendering.
